Claire House Splash Dash is a rainbow of success

Over 800 participants ran, jogged, walked and danced through clouds of powdered paint on Saturday (Saturday 28thSeptember 2013), in the first Claire House Splash Dash.

Taking place in Sefton Park, Merseyside’s messiest 5k aimed to raise £50,000 to support children and young people with complex medical conditions, and their families, who access the services of Claire House Children’s Hospice.

Paint stations were situated at points across the park, with 150 volunteers throwing the coloured powder, made from hypoallergenic, water-soluble corn flower, to create a rainbow of runners through the finish line.

Official sponsors of the Claire House Splash Dash, Liverpool ONE, were in-charge of the red paint station. Estates Director Chris Bliss, who officially started the run, said; “Claire House is such a vital resource for families across the region and all the team work to make it the happiest place possible.

“As a big supporter of the charity Liverpool ONE was really keen to get behind the very first Splash Dash event. I was delighted to be invited to officially start the race and meet more of the team from Claire House. It was a fantastic event where it was clear all participants had the best time getting colourful.”

Claire House Children’s Hospice provides respite, care and support for children and young people across Merseyside, North Wales, Cheshire, West Lancashire and the Isle of Man. The Claire House Splash Dash was the first event of its kind in the area and hopes to help the hospice meet its £2.7million yearly fundraising target.

Kirsty Simpson, Event Manager for Claire House Children’s Hospice, said; “We saw these ‘colour runs’ as a trend in events that was coming over the pond from America and we knew we had to be involved. It represents everything Claire House is about; colour, vibrancy, fun and laughter. This is the first Claire House Splash Dash we’ve done and we’re delighted with the success.

“Thank you so much to Liverpool ONE and all our supporters for creating such an amazing event. We can’t wait to see you next year!”
